Mérida! By now we are getting fairly settled over here, we are finding our way around and getting to know the places to go to (or not go to).....
This past weekend we had to move unfortunately, we were happy at the first apartment but since we only rented it one month and by the time we wanted to extend, the landlady had already rented it after us. So for now we have a small place on the second floor of the office of the landlord. It is actually two separate bedrooms en suite with a shared bathroom and he let us have both for the same price as just one. So I can work in one room and we sleep in the other. It is really central so the loation is good, but we won´t stay anymore than a month. It is really just to buy us more time to look for a place. The whole house hunting business is stressful, between the location, the price and furnished or not furnished. It is not easy to find the right place!!

We have finished with the Save the Children campaign now, we participated 3 times over the 14 days, and it was so much fun! We met some wonderful people through Save the Children and my plan is to talk to them once we get the house sorted and we have a bit of normality and order again. I would like to be able to say that every certain day of the week I can help them out for some hours, with anything they need.

This weekend was Carnaval weekend and today is a bank holiday so I am not working. Last night we saw the parade and then we got invited to a party at the house of the Mexican boyfriend of Lucía. Lucía is a Spanish girl we met because of contacting her to see her last apartment. They are both reall nice people and we have a great international mix enjoying drinks in Rodrigos garden. We have been so lucky to meet so many wonderful people and we are already having a great social life. At least I can really enjoy my time off. Once we get a nice house we´ll have a little moving in party to celebrate and get everyone together.

I had my first try at getting the FM3 which is the work permit, I had read various stories online about the process. It seems like Mérida is a good place to do the application, the staff at the immigration office are supposed to be nice. I am surprised how organised they are. First thing you have to register your information online on the immigration website, choosing the option that you want to change your status from tourist to tempoary immigrant. Then note down the reference number that you get after submitting your information. With that you go to the immigration office any day you want together with your passport, a photocopy of the passport, a letter from the company offering you a job in México, a photocopy of the id of the person that signed the letter from the company, a utility bill from the address where you are living and finally the little paper that they give you to keep in your passport when you enter the country.
The fist day they take all your documentation off you and get you registered in the system. They´ll give you another reference number that you have to check online until your status changes to "Come back to th office". You also have to pay some fees, they give you the bank forms and you can pay the fees in any bank you want.
So for now I´m waiting for my status to change online, I think the next step is to give them the receipt of the fees and they will tell me if I am missing any documents. The I will be sent home to get those documents and present them another day. It doesn´t seem complicated, just a bit slow with a lot of return appointments to immigration.
