After a brief stop in Nha Trang, a big commercial beachside city packed with Russian tourists, we headed North to Hoi An on a very cramped sleeper bus. Despite our lack of sleep we were not too tired to appreciate the beauty of this little riverside town and decided almost immediately to book an extra night with our hostel on top of the 3 we had previously planned. Every street is pretty and there isn't an ugly building in sight. The houses are mostly painted yellow and Chinese lanterns hang from every rooftop and zig-zag across the streets like bunting. Alongside the river there are loads of sweet little cafes and restaurants and the market is just like the ones you see on postcards. On top of all this the beach is only a scenic 20 minute bike ride out of town. Every other shop is a tailors, so we made the most of the cheap prices and extraordinarily quick service to have various items of clothing made including silk tops and in Veritys case a skirt and jacket suit. The first few days we spent wondering the streets and enjoying the hot weather on the beach. We then moved into the very spoiling hotel that mummy kindly booked for my birthday treat. It was an amazing contrast to the places we have become accustomed to so we were able to thoroughly appreciate every little bit of it! From the gorgeous pool, to the squidgy beds and of course the complimentary yoga class the next morning. Not to mention the buffet breakfast which offered the largest choice of breakfast either of us have ever come across (we stayed there a good hour and a half!) Continuing my birthday celebrations we treated ourselves to a Vietnamese cooking class recommended by the hotel which was a big success and will hopefully mean we can recreate some of the food we have been eating when we get back home. I think it's safe to say that Hoi An has easily been our favourite town so far and we both want to come back here one day soon......the perfect honeymoon destination perhaps?!
