After finding our new hotel in Bangkok we met up for the first time with our new group. They're a fun bunch of people, 16 in total, including a very entertaining gay couple who we very quickly befriended! Our guide is a cambodian man called Chen and is younger than the previous one and very chatty which is good. Setting off the next morning we crossed the border into Cambodia and arrived in Chen's hometown of Siem Reap which he introduced to us with great enthusiasm. Here we visited a school and healthcare centre which G-Adventures helps fund called New Hope. In only a matter of minutes we were greeted by lots of very young children who desperately wanted to hold our hands or be swung around. Naturally they were a big distraction from the tour of the Centre as we played and took photos with them all! Afterwards they treated us to a traditional banquet of Cambodian delicacies including an appetiser of fried crickets to start us off which actually weren't that bad! The meal was delicious and we left feeling extremely full. Nevertheless that didn't stop us from visiting the town's popular "pub street" for our first night out since we left home. The next day we visited Cambodia's most famous attraction Angkor Wat which really is as architecturally beautiful as the guidebooks make out. It was extremely hot wondering around the temples though and sometimes hard to focus especially as our guide for the day had a tendency of repetition and a monotone voice! It was a nice treat to be able to return to our hotel pool for a cool-down and afterwards we visited a busy night market.
