Although time-wise its not been very long in the scale of our trip, arriving in Bangkok has definitely felt like a new chapter in our travels! It was a slightly daunting place to arrive especially as our hostel is very much a hostel in comparison to the hotels we've been fortunate to stay in during the tour! It is also extremely hot and muggy which took a bit of getting used to! The first day we spent getting our Vietnamese visa and generally wondering around the local area. Then yesterday we were slightly more adventurous and treated ourselves to a Thai massage. However this was not quite the relaxing experience we were expecting as we were stretched, bent and cracked into all manner of positions!! Nevertheless we did emerge feeling a lot looser and energised! Afterwards we took a rickety bus across the city to visit the grand palace although this wasn't as easy as it sounds as none of the bus stops were numbered or signed! Arriving at the grand palace we were immediately targeted by a beggar woman who forcefully thrust small bags of corn for feeding pigeons into our hands, cut the plastic and then demanded money. Fortunately we were able to barge past and save our pennies despite some fairly strong resistance on her behalf! Sadly part of the grand palace was closed off so instead of forking out for a ticket we visited Wat Pho, A group of the oldest temples in the whole of Bangkok. They were amazingly ornate and elaborate and very different to Indian architecture. We also got to see the world's largest reclining Buddha which was HUGE. Afterwards we stumbled upon a market so between us we devoured a pot of strawberries and an entire mango before heading back to the hostel and braving some street food for supper (a noodle soup with pork) A trip to Tesco also found us some nice free tasters for pudding!
