Up and pack our stuff before we head back to the main square to send some stuff home (inc the glasses intact presently!). Then go up to the mercado central to have a look at the seafood and fish. Inside it is great all old metalwork, modelled apparently on Smithfield market in London, the only difference here is that there are some stars in the design too. A waiter tells us this plus the fact all of it was shipped out from Brum, which is where Tony is from originally.

The centre of the market is full of restaurants and has a great atmosphere. Decide to abandon our picnic plans at this point to come back and eat here later. Walk through the local markets further north before getting to the funicular station where we all head up a mountain to the top where there are beautiful tiered gardens and a chapel plus a statue all with great views of the city and surrounding mountains, although its a bit cloudy and foggy today. We then get the cable car across the whole park area which is massive and includes swimming pools (sadly still closed), wine museum, Japanese gardens etc. We are not feeling too energetic so come straight back and then admire the view over the city with a bottle of wine.

Back to the mercado we have a great fish lunch in the bustling market which is gerat.

Spend the afternoon being very Chilean sitting in the Plaza de Armas watching the locals play speed chess in a bandstand and the world go by. Is about 28 degrees so canīt complain.

Later on get the bus to the bus station (there is no central one here depends on which company and where you are going. Obviously canīt be made too easy for us). We spend a while trying to find the bus station and get quite lost but eventually find a small office where the bus for Pucon is due to pick us up. Duly get on our very plush Turbus with huge armchair seats. All sleep our way south.....
