Where I stayed
world! (bloomin stupid restrictions on length of titles!)
After a non-Chinese breakfast we walk up to the bus terminal to get a bus to Guaranda - our next stop. Read the newspaper headlines and the exit polls were right Correa and Noboa are through to the next round of elections in November for President. Not what my prediction was although it was purely based on the number of posters I saw for each candidate, I should know better really!
Main reason to go there is for the journey past Chombarizo the huge volcano and great views. The journey is fantastic and we go right next to it getting some great photos of it and the surrounding countryside. Whats almost as good is it takes less than 2 hours to get there PLUS Salinas, a town near to Guaranda, is famous for cheese and chocolate and it is sold here. What more could you want?
We arrive in the town and try and find a hostal. There are several but they arent cheap which is odd considering we dont see another tourist while we are here. We stay at Hostel Flores which is lovely and we have a balcony out onto the street and a nice room but it is still $16 which seems expensive still!
We go up into town to the cheese and choc shop on the main plaza and stock up on this and bread and wine and then get a taxi to El Indio monument on the top of a hill overlooking the town and the volcanoes. Is a beautiful day and we enjoy our picnic whilst we admire the view. We walk back down and have a mooch around town the plaza and churches but there is not much else to see here and it is amusing being stared at by locals. Nice chilled out day and another chinese meal for dinner!
