Up and out with Jen and Jonno to the bus station to get our bus to Cusco, allegedly direct. One of the many lessons we have learnt = don´t believe it unless it is written down. This bus felt like one of the longest journey ever with ´Estrella del Sul´ (I think). It stopped everywhere to pick up passengers and every kind of food seller including women carving roasted lamb virtually on Jen and Jonnos lap.

The scenery was nice going up the valley with mountains and rivers, but it felt like ages. Possibly as we are now used to overnight bus journeys where you can at least multi=task (ie travel and sleep). What was the most frustrating was being lied to in the first place but life goes on.

We arrived late pm into the bus terminal and got a taxi into town to a hostal which was full but got touted for another which was nice actually. Hostal Casa Grande very near the main Plaza de Armas for 40 Soles each I think with bathroom. Joanna who works there is an absolute star.

J and J had already prebooked their Inca trail months ago so we embarked on interviewing hundreds of agencies for our trek. We decided on the Lares trek for a number of reasons:
= fewer tourists
= finishes at Machu Picchu
= Great scenery and wildlife
= Visit lots of villages with indigenous people in the process.

Several hours later we semi agreed on the first agency (typical!) which was not the cheapest but seem to include everything and seemed honest enough.

We also got to see a fair amount of the town in the process in twilight and the dark which is beautiful. Cusco is incredibly colonial with fantastic old buildings everywhere and none of the horrid concrete blocks in the centre as in other S American towns. Streets are cobbled or stone paved as in the olden dayes. It is pretty touristy but thats the price you pay for a nice place I reckon.

Our heads were full after the interviewing so we went for dinner and crashed out.
