Arrive airport 5am with too many Columbian pesos as we all thought we had to buy two extra meals than we did. Dunkin Donuts did well out of us instead.

Actually get flight to Cucuta 12 hours later than should have been and AJ meets up with us at the airport bemused by the whole story. He has had a good and relatively hassle free trip.

We are pleased to be back to see Gertie and head off to the border which is v confusing. Eventually find where to get stamped out of Columbia and then drive over another bridge into Venezuela. We then try to get stamped into Venezuela at the checkpoint but have to go to another building in town elsewhere which is a bit odd. All get in no probs and change some money. Getting the truck sorted is a bit more trouble and takes a few hours so we have a wander around the rather non descript town of San Fernando de Something or other. Have lunch and watch the painful Oz v Italy game which the Italians cheated in (its not cos I am biased - yet!) More waiting at the truck and watch the border guards check peoples car boots and petrol tanks so not to smuggle things in or out esp as fuel is a lot lot cheaper in Venezuela than Columbia.

Eventually get set off for a very long drive and have lost several hours due to Venezuelan bureaucracy. On long drive over lots of mountains and through very green landscapes we get stopped a couple of times for people to check our passports and inspect the truck. Was expecting this kind of hassle in Columbia and not here but hey its all fun (ish). People arent giving us a lot of hassle and are generally friendly but its just annoying. We get to Merida, our destination several hours after we are sposed to at about 2300. We are all knackered but glad to be here!
