Flight yesterday was good - had a fantastic view of the snowcapped mountains as we left Santiago and headed up the coast towards our first stop, Guayaquil (sp?) - the biggest city in Ecuador and then arrived in Quito at about 19.00. Got a taxi for $5 (all use US currency here) to the Galeria hostel in the Marechal area or new town. Have a huge room with 2 bedrooms and 3 beds and a balcony for $8 each a night - is more expensive than we were imaging though. Doesn´t look like they wash sheets here (bit like India) which really annoys me but Dave thinks I am being silly. Thankfully have liners with us to sleep in though. Eventually get to sleep and up this morning.

Rained overnight and is quite mild but not hot as we are v high up, Quito is second highest city in the world. Have to be careful of altitude sickness so are taking it easy today (like we would be going for a run otherwise!) but have had a wander around the area which seems fine and lots of police around. Have sorted Spanish lessons to start this afternoon so hopefully we will be able to stop having Spanglish conversations before much longer! Only here for a couple more days and plan to cram as much as we can before we leave for Columbia on Thursday.
Hasta luego!
