Get our Jetstar (another cheapie) flight to Melbourne. Weather similar here unfortunately but have been v lucky in the last few days. Get bus into town and our hotel 'The Miami' which is more like an old people's home than a hotel! Wander down Victoria Street to the Queen Victoria markets which are on today and stalls with kitsch tourist crap to clothes. Also find wine tasting stalls which is dangerous and lovely deli area - all v tempting. Next wander into main shopping area where there is a mixture of old and new buildings and several lovely old arcades similar to some in London. So there is more history in Oz than I thought! It is also a lot more cosmopolitan here than I have noticed elsewhere but have not been to a lot of major towns really.
At the moment there is the Melbourne Comedy Festival on so find out what is on. Sadly Ross Noble (Geordie comedian we like) was on last week but get tickets for a Melbourne comedian who won the Perrier Award last year, Tim Minchin. Go and see the show a mixture of comedy and music which is pretty funny only to realise had seen some of it on telly in Surfers Paradise last week!
Head off for dinner to a Vietnamese restaurant - love the fact you can BYO (bring your own wine, etc) to restaurants out here is much cheaper! Is raining again so feels a bit like the UK again (not quite sure why rain and UK is linked in my head so much!)
