Yesterday we had a lie-in (til at least 08.30 - not sure what is wrong with us but might be something to do with Lao shutting down by 22.30). We then spent the morning updating our journals and budget (which we hadn't done since leaving China!) and the rest of the day wandering round LP. This is a UNESCO site and is not dissimilar to Hoi An in Vietnam although there are more sights to see. LP is basically a finger of land between two rivers and it is full of colonial buildings and temples with lots of orange clad monks wandering around. We walked up the banks of the Nam Khan river and down the banks of the Mekong via the most magnificent of the wats 'Wat Xieng Thong' which has lovely gold paintings inside and is very peaceful. We then went to find out about boats up to Houey Xai (at the Thai border) which take 2 days as we plan to leave here on Monday. After more wandering we find a hotel where we can use the pool when we want to completely chill out and then have a late lunch followed by a siesta as we have both had too much sun today.

Head down to the Mekong river banks for dinner where we have a 'Sindad' which is like a DIY barbecue and saucepan in one over some v hot coals. We basically had to cook the meat in the middle of the pan and then poured chicken stock around the outside of the pan which was like a big moat and added in fresh mushrooms, cabbage, noodles and an egg. Was very tasty if a little hot to sit next to!

Anyway have spent another few hours doing this and feel like it has been a bit hard going and probably pretty dire reading in parts so apologies.

Now for a slightly more interesting bit and our 'competition'. Den, one of our mates from home, is out in Bangkok on business a week on Sunday and we have arranged to go down and meet him there for the day/night. So far we can only think of marmite for him to bring out (apart from some more contact lenses for me), although we have a long list of things for him to take home ;-) (watch this space!!) Can anyone think of anything as I have almost shut out of my mind anything (other than people) that we may miss from home?

Are off now to go swimming in a waterfall where hopefully there will be some water!
frustrating time on the internet trying to do this blog (which was v out of date)

Things for Den to bring
How about some clean pants? I understand you only took 5 pairs each! ;-) Miss you both lots, life in London is good. I need to find a job though and Dave is getting a bit impatient with my attempts at employment avoidance. Better go now because I am off to find a job (honest). Lol Crin xxxx
