More BULLET TRAIN action to Hiroshima, we arrive and it is raining, perfect opportunity to try our first Okonomi-mura a local fried dish made from noodles, egg and pancake batter, with veggies pickles and herbs...our favorite Japanese food so far! We went to a indoor market style place with 25 Okonomi-mura stalls, you sit and they cook it on hot plate tables in front of you, you can also have them with pork or squid, highly recommend!
The next day and back to the sights we took a trip to the island of Miyajima where the famous red gateway in the water is. Again the temple is surrounded by wild dear, we had our first dear attack whist eating sweet corn, they would literally eat anything, all they got from us was a bit of greaseproof paper!
We headed to the Peace Gardens and the A-Bomb dome the next morning, the area was calm and serene with a river running through. The history of Hiroshima is hard to grasp, this city has picked itself up from nothing and created a new beautiful city, with kooky artsy places hidden away, and again amazing shops that we banned ourselves from!
Later that afternoon we completed a self directed trek to the top of a large hill to reach a shrine that even the Lonely Planet Guide hasn't heard of, I don't think we quite knew what we were taking on, but did it all the same, satisfaction on the unbeaten track!
