I think of Birmingham as my home town. My family moved there before I started attending school. At that time Birmingham was an industrial city filled with blast furnaces, foundries, pipe and cement producers. It was a dirty, gritty, dismal place. Over the years since the city has transformed itself into a fairly attractive place where clean industries such as banking, health care, insurance, etc. have replaced the dismal grit and soot producers.
