Today was the moment I was gonna go to the Cederberg area, the place where the race will be!
I packed my stuff (most of it cycling gear) and was ready to hit the road. But first I was gonna drop off Chris at the airport of CPT while he is going for a week to Johannesburg. He will have to build tribunes/seats for a golf event.
Around 12.00 I was ready to leave, in theory they say CPT - Cederberg will take 3 hours... Just before Citrusdal I stopped for a lunch on top of the pass. Another 70 km and I reached Cederberg, but then, 10 km later I wanted to fill up my tank while I was gonna go to the middle of nowhere for a while...and yep just before I stopped at the fuel station a nail in my tyre :-(. Slowly the air came out, very slowly... So it was not only filling up but also replacing a tyre.
Because of roadworks I decided also to take an extra 25 km on gravel road, probably not the best idea while the gravel roads are worse then in Namibia. But yeah, finally at 17.00 I reached the Cederberg winery! Checking in to my cottage asap so I can go for a short MTB-ride.
A trip of 20 km, 300 climbing meters...16 km/h average, not to bad I think.
There is only one thing that worries me, since a couple of days I do feel that I have 1 or 2 bruised ribs, during the mountainbiking it disturbs me now and then :-(. We will see what it will be.
Tomorrow waking up early and going for a longer ride, but can't do the trip I had planned, while a couple of weeks ago (2 days before Christmas), they had some serious bush fires in the surroundings. The organisation of Ride the Rock still needs to see how bad it is for their tracks...
