Thursday morning I started the day in Tacloban. At 9 am I had my first orientation with a new volunteer followed by a tour of Tacloban City and lunch at my favorite restaurant. The weather was a bit mild in the morning so it was quite pleasant walking around the city. I arrived back in Bliss around 12:30 and I began getting my things together to go to Cangumbang.
When I got to Palo I had to stop at the hardware store to first and foremost inquire as to where our supplies were, we had a delivery meant to arrive Wednesday afternoon that should have arrived Thursday morning but hadn't yet. They said they were waiting on some lumber so I decided to take the 10 sheets of plywood and box of nails with me our to Cangumbang on a tricycle
I also had to order the gravel and sand for the volunteers to help transport to the site this Saturday. Since we will be pouring the floor on Tuesday I had to order 6 truckloads of sand and 6 truckloads of gravel, definitely our biggest order of aggregates yet.
My friend Rachel came with me on Thursday and when we arrived at the site the children screamed our names, they probably thought I wasn't coming since it was getting late in the afternoon. I made them juice right away to satisfy them. Many of the children were at their houses so even the workers got some fruit punch too ;)
Jon-Jon was filthy so after finishing his juice that we decided to give him a bath. We are still having trouble communicating with him mother, who appears to be working and sleeping away from Cangumbang. I did some first aid on some of the children afterwards, just some small cuts that needed to be cleaned and have antibiotic put on them. Next thing I knew the workers were cleaning up and it was time to go home.
The workers completed half of the floor paneling, and installed more of the second floor steel columns. They also built many more wood frames for the steel.
