Hello Everyone,

The construction team worked hard to continue building the scaffolding and they even began laying some of the steel for the second floor supports. It is hard to fully explain the process currently, even I don't totally understand why they are doing the things they do. But we have had a structural engineer approve the contractors plans so I trust him one hundred percent.

The children and I hung out for most the day. I got to the site around 9 am and most of them were still at home, but I took the few who were at the site already to get some bread for breakfast in the morning. The morning went by quickly and the afternoon flew by as well. In the afternoon I had to run to the hardware store to buy some wire, but other than that I just hung around the site observing the project. I feel somewhat useless at times, since I am no experienced carpenter and I definitely don't feel comfortable up on the scaffolding. But I know how much the children enjoy spending time with me and I'm also aware of how my presence can keep the workers on task a bit more.

I bought bread and homemade peanut butter for the children after lunch, and they all thoroughly enjoyed their little sandwich slices. :)

May Joy one of the sisters of a sponsored child came and sat down with me in the afternoon and I noticed she was scratching her head quite a bit. After one peek at her hair I knew she had lice, and quite severe. I spent about 30 minutes picking out eggs and found a few live bugs as well. I checked some of the other girls hair and found three of them had lice all together. I spoke with the sponsorship coordinators this afternoon and I am going to bring them some lice shampoo tomorrow and wash their hair for them thoroughly. I am going to try my best to help them get rid of it from their homes so they don't get it again. However, May Joy informed me that her mother is gone to Tacloban until Saturday, which means her and her older sister are caring for their 4 younger brothers by themselves for the week. I offered to stay overnight Tuesday night, but that was before I found the lice. So I may just bring them dinner one night, as they mentioned they only had rice to eat right now. Even sponsorship can't help feed 6 children 3 meals a day, unfortunately.

Overall I had a really nice day in Cangumbang, I didn't even realize it was past 5 pm until I saw all the workers packing up their things. It is nice to not feel so drained after a day outside at the site.

Did you ever imagine that you would be in kneeling before a child, picking bugs out of hair? I can see someone asking you to do this a few years ago and picture you freaking out and making someone else do it. But look at you now! You are awesome!

You can use mayo too! I'll look it up and email you- just in case the lice stuff is really expensive or hard to find. The typical stuff is pretty nasty but I know you do what you have to do.
