Hello All,

Today Crisel, one of the VFV sponsorship coordinators, and I went to Cangumbang to meet with the sponsored children and their parents so we could tell them about our project. Some of them have heard little bits and pieces about the evacuation center, but few have been fully informed about what is going to happen, how and when.

We all gathered in Nanay Elay's home, which has become the common meeting place in Cangumbang for VFV. I am sure Nanay Elay will be happy when the center is built, so her home doesn't have to be crammed with people practically every month.

When Crisel told them that we would be building an Evacuation Center, some of the kids squealed and smiles slowly appeared on the parents faces. They were most concerned about how it would be maintained and how everyone would know what to do during a flood. Some of them asked how they would get all the way to the center from their home, when we told them by boat they were clearly shocked. Crisel answered some questions and translating some more details for me so everyone thoroughly understood what was going to happen. She also asked that anyone without work, including the older children, help contribute to the construction of the center. With a strict budget contingent on volunteer labor, we really need the help of the community who will directly benefit from their labor during the next flood.

After handing out close to a hundred stickers, we headed back to Tacloban. I spent the remainder of my day relaxing, preparing for a busy week.
