This week I would like to start off my sincerely thanking all of the recent contributors to the Holy Angels Ark Project, the Evacuation Center Project for Cangumbang. The totals are now nearing a very significant milestone in fundraising, this past weekend we reached $8,161 USD in donations. I am so excited for the families in Cangumbang. As many of you have recently heard in the news the Philippines was struck again by a devastating typhoon. Luckily for the people of Cangumbang it stayed mostly in the south and they were not directly effected by the storm itself. My heart goes out to those in Mindanao searching for love ones and mourning the great losses they've incurred.
We all must remember that these storms do not happen every once in a while for many Filipinos. I have to keep reminding myself that devastating storms continue to effect Cangumbang each year
I see the Evacuation Center in Cangumbang as a symbol of new life for Cangumbang. A literal lifeline to the people who reside there. Providing not only shelter from the flood waters, but safe transportation to shelter. A place to receive basic medical care, proper bathrooms, food, and water while their homes are swallowed up by flood waters
As I speak for the people of Cangumbang, I ask you to put yourself in their shoes. Imagine your home becoming completely submerged in a murky mix of waste. Think of the decisions that would need to be made in such a state of distress, and consider the losses which you would incur.
Last year I was raising money to build a bathroom for a family, who we were constructing a home for. In my blog, I asked people to consider how much money they would pay to have a bathroom built at their home if they didn't have one. Please consider what life is like in Cangumbang, and contemplate the amount of money you'd contribute to give your whole community a chance of survival....
I believe the amount you'd be willing to contribute to build your own evacuation center, along with the contributions of those in your community, would be insurmountably more than what is needed to build the Evacuation Center for Cangumbang. The lives of those in Cangumbang are of no more worth than our own, we are all human, we all deserve basic shelter and the means to survive. No matter who we are, where we are, or what we have.
Thank you for your continued support,
