Hi Everybody,
This week has gone by sooo fast.  We have been busy like every day and night.
This afternoon we cooked dinner for our sponsor partner and their families.  It was sooo hott in the kitchen cooking!!  Then we walked to their house with our food to eat at around 6.  My sponsor child has no electricity in her house.  They have lived there for nine years and are considered to have a nice home because they were part of the build-a-home project that VFV does.  Mary Rose, my sponsor partner, is nine years old.  She has 4 brothers and 3 sisters.  Her father left her mother 2 years ago so her mother has been raising her 8 children and 1 granddaughter alone.  Her mother told me tonight that she make 1,100 pesos per month.  That comes out to 22 US dollars.  I can't believe that. However, even with the very poor living conditions and not very much money around Mary Rose is amazing.  Here they call the top three people in a class at school 1st honors, 2nd honors, and 3rd honors. Mary Rose was 1st honors in her 3rd grade class last year.  She knows English so well and she is soo friendly and beautiful.  She is the little girl in my picture by the way.
Just spending the two weeks I have here has made me want to give so much to every child I meet.  I wish I could buy them all clothes and food to last a lifetime.
I found out a little more info on the spnosoship program.  I highly suggest it to any of you who are financially able to do so.  I myself am thinking about trying it out because I realize how badly these children really need it.  The sponsorship costs 25 dollars a month or 300 dollars a year.  The money provides one feeding a day for the child every day of the year.  They also get school supplies and get everything the community center has to offer.  That includes, swimming lessons, dance classes, beach trips, sponsor partners, and so many other activites. The children I have met here are so loving and friendly despite some of their very tough living conditions.  Everything costs so little here that less than a dollar a day can give one child everything to be successful in their daily lives.

How do we sign up to sponsor a child?
Amazing how much we take for granted... If everyone who reads your blog would pass on purchasing a new clothing item or buying a meal at restaurant each month they could make a huge difference in a child's life. When we think about Americans struggling with the economy today... we need to realize that we are still far better off than millions of others in this world. We'll sponsor a child, how do I sign up?

Sponsorship
So... Keith says we can sponsor a child- but he wants a woven doily or SOMETHING once a year. :) Anyway, we are IN! :D We love you- miss you (Keith wondered if we were going to pick you up today and bring you to Sturgis with us) -and we're so proud!

Re: Sponsorship
Awww thanks. :) The kids send letters alot actually I think. I will let the coordinators know tomorrow that you want to. Do you have any preferences on age or gender? Or just whoever needs it most?
