Hi!
So I am done with my first week of work officially. Yay!  It hasn't been easy though.  It is hard getting adjusted to the culture here because it is so different.  At the orphanage I'm having trouble helping at all because since I am white they don't want to make me do anything.  But that's what I am here for!  So my host sister has suggested that I just plan things myself and then tell them what I need them to do.  I feel so bad doing that though, like I am ordering them around.  I guess it will just take some getting used too.
Yesterday I went with my host sister and 2 local volunteers on a beach trip with the sponsor children.  The children are sponsored by people so that they can go to school, receive one meal a day at the community center, get some various supplies, and participate in the centers activities.  The center also pairs each volunteer with a sponsor child so that they can form bonds and have someone to give them some extra attention.  I got to meet mine yesterday, her name is Mary Rose.  She is so sweet.  I am really excited to spend time with her and I am sure we will get close since I will be here for so long.
If any of you are interested in being a sponsor let me know and I can get you information.  Also if any of you are interested in donating money or supplies let me know.  I will be happy to buy donations for you here so that you don't have to send them.  Everything is so cheap here that a little money goes a very long way.
I have been trying to upload pictures but I haven't had any luck yet.  I really want you guys to see what it is like here though.  So I will try until I figure something out, hopefully this weekend.
