Helloo,
I thought I would give you guys more information on my home stay.  The house is pretty rough compared to American standards.  Cement walls and floors, no real windows, metal barred doors, no shower, and bugs.  My room is about 6 by 8 feet with just a bed and small dresser.  I do get a fan though which is much needed here.  I pretty much sweat doing anything and I haven't even tried standing in the direct sunlight.
When I was unpacking yesterday a mouse ran across my floor!  I refrained from screaming but I made sure I picked up anything they could get in.   I have also ran into quite a few cockroaches.  My host sister told me just to stomp on them but I just run away from them because I don't want to here them crunch.
They bath by dipping a bucket in a large trash can filled with water and then dumping over their heads.  I took my first one last night and it was better than I expected.  About 10 minutes afterward I was sweating again though.
I am still not completely sure who all lives in my house actually.  From what I know it is my host mother, father, brother, and sister.  But I think there is another brother, sister-in-law and 2 grandchildren who might also live there.  I haven't been upstairs so I don't know who stays up there.
My host brother and sister told me today that one of their brothers went out fishing on the Pacific Ocean last year with 13 other people.  Unfortunately there was a typhoon and they are all still missing.  He has one daughter who is around 5 months old I think who I met today.  She is so cute.
There is a stray dog that is pretty much my family's pet but they don't care for it like in the US.  All they do is feed it and let it roam the house as it pleases.
My family used to has an off and on store in front of their house to generate a little extra income.  Right now it isn't open but they normally sell candy and drinks.
In the front of my house is a basketball court where there are constant games being played.  I don't know how they can keep running around when it is so warm.  There are so many children running around outside.  I spent 2 hours this morning just sitting in the front room watching all of them play.  They are all so friendly and nice.
The area where the house is, is called a cluster.  It is pretty much a bunch of small houses or shacks with narrow cement block sidewalks in between them.
Today I am going on tour of Tacloban City and then I am going to visit my placement.  I will probably write another entry afterwards but I have to go on the tour now. :)

Hey cuz :)
My coworker has family in IloIlo which is just west of you. How do they get between islands over there? lots of ferries? I'm jealous, your trip sounds like it will be a great adventure, how long will you be there? I'll be keeping tabs :)

Re: Hey cuz :)
I'm not really sure how they travel between them. I know between Leyte and Samar there is a large bridge. I haven't had a chance to travel outside Tacloban City yet.
I will be here for 3 months, and yes it will be an adventure. :)
