Cebu like all the other cities in the Philippine isn't that great. Too much traffic pollution and loads of malls. We booked ourselves on the overnight ferry to Camiguim (a volcanic island in the south) for the 29th and then sqeezed in a quick trip to Bohol to see the Chocolate Hills. This of course involved more ferries and local buses, but when it came to choice between paying 1 pound each return on the local bus or 12.50 to be driven in a car, the bus wins. It's also quite fun (once you get the hang of it) standing on the road flagging down buses to see if they are going where you need to go.
The 1200+ Chocolate Hills are very impressive. Check out wikipedia for more info http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chocolate_Hills Although we couldn't help noticing an uncanny resembalence to a scene in Star Wars where the Millenium Falcon and Rebel Alliance left the planet Tantaween; destination Death Star - mission destroy.
As the ferry we were booked on only leaves once a week, we had to rush back to Cebu for 8pm that day. Another advantage of going on local buses means we can afford the most expensive ferry ticket, which is cabin class, rather than sleeping on bunk beds on an open deck. We had a room with tv and bathroom with nice comfy beds. It was a room for 3 people so we had to share with a nice lady called Marlene. So we were tucked up in bed by 10.30pm ready to arrive in Camiguin at 7am the next day...
