What I did
Arctic Husky Sled ride

Flag of Finland  , Lapponia,
Friday, December 9, 2011

Today I got to drive a sled being pulled by a team of huskies through a snow covered forest, & it was a breathtaking experience. They are so keen to run, I had to keep putting the brakes on so we didn't overtake the slow sleds in front of us. The ride went for 10km & the scenery was so beautiful. It was during the very short daylight hour as well, which made it more special. The only downside was the dogs relieving themselves along the way, especially as they all made for the trees anytime we stopped. After the ride we got to meet the huskies before having (reindeer) sausages & coffee.
I made the most of a lazy afternoon by having a spa & sauna, so feel quite relaxed now. Dinner was a traditional dish, Reindeer withmashed potato, Ligonberry & pickles, so I'm very full. Another early night as there's not much happening here. It has been overcast, so not sure I'll get to see the Northern lights tonight.
Observations of the day:
They may look like snow boots, but if they have heels they are not appropriate footwear for a husky trip.
Santa trips are very popular with the Brits. Several busloads arrived last night & the conversations overhead at breaky were interesting. The kids were looking out the windows for 'Tricky Dicky'.....
35 huskies barking is VERY loud.
