After a yummy pancake breakfast at Monterey we headed off. We stopped at Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey and walked around. There's lots of historical things but we didn't have a lot of time to check it all out. We drove the 17 Mile Drive route from Monterey to Carmel, which was beautiful Lots of things to see along the way. There's a cypress tree that is out on a rock and has been there for over 250 years. There's also golf courses along the way - Pebble Beach is the most famous one. We stopped off at Pebble Beach and had a browse. There was a tournament going on - The First Tee - juniors with pro's - we watched Craig Stadtler and his opponent tee off on the first hole. The juniors also tee'd off and they seemed to hit better than the pro's. We drove through Carmel and stopped at Whaler's Cove at Point Lobos National Park for lunch. We then drove along the Big Sur scenic route to San Luis Obispo. The drive is incredible, with some fantastic views of mountains on one side and the ocean on the other. We crossed over the famous bridge, can't remeber the name, which is featured in many movies. The hostel at Obispo was fabulous - very homely and quaint. And the sourdough pancakes were yummy for breakfast.
