Today we visited some Village Phone ladies as part of our work in Indonesia. Felt guilty as I watched the candle slowly burn to the floor in the household of a family of 13 with two rooms in the urban slums of
Jakarta. They lit the candle to chat with us in as their children stared and made faces. Their new business is helping bring a little over $1.50 a day in income in a country where 75% of the population earns less than $2.50 a day. They mentioned the difficultly of buying additional inventory as they needed $10 but no one offers loans at that amount.
