Where I stayed
So today was my adventure to discover some of the beaches here. The owner of my bungalows in her nice Aussie Accent told me that it was just a bit of a walk over the hill, about a half an hour or so...well that so really was an hour and a half, and even in the morning, I was pretty drenched in sweat by the time I got to my beach, but no worries, I was just going in the water anyways
I found a great beach with beautiful sand and tall limestone cliffs surrounding it, the cliffs that are famous for rock-climbing are truly amazing, I have never seen anything like it . I had lunch at one of the "fancy" restaurants by the beach and paid the most I have had so far for some spicy noodles, almost $4 ! Thats outrageous! Its so silly how you get so spoiled on how cheap things are here when at home you wouldn't bat an eye at paying over $4 for a latte.
After lunch I ventured out to find the really secluded beach, it was a great walk around some jagged limestone cliffs and came around the corner to find that there was alot of other people who had found that secluded beach as well. Its amazing how so many people just end up staying where everyone else is staying...they just figure that this must be the spot and they set their stuff down around everyone else. I not wanting to be like everyone else ventured down the beach just a little bit further, ahhhh, there it is. The secluded beach I was looking for, it was a great day.
I went into "town" tonite to have dinner, which consists of a small dirt road and a few bar and restaurants, I think it was happy hour as I was passing thru, in fact I think I got a little high just walking by a couple of the happening little reggae bars
I decided to head to Phi Phi island a day earlier, and will head over there by boat in the morning. Phi Phi island is famous for being the place where they filmed that famous movie " The Beach" several years ago. It truly is beautiful , but the movie really brought the tourists in wanting their own private paradise. The Tsunami that hit here in 2005 wiped so much of Phi Phi away, and they have really come a long way in re-building, and its almost back to the way it was, unfortunately some of the original low-key bungalows have been rebuilt by fancier versions, so its lots some its charm. But there are still amazing places to be found, you just have to go a little further away from where the ferry brings you in to find them.
My friend Sara and her friend Eve are coming in on Monday to stay with me for the week , we are staying at one of the those off the beat places, away from it all.:-)
