I have just completed 3 of my 4 flights on my way to Bali, and arriving very late in Bangkok, I have decided to spend the night "in Transit" which mean that I will try to entertain my self for 8 hours awaiting my 8 am flight to my final destination...Bali. I arrived here at midnight, it was a nice easy travel day, once again the Travel Karma Gods are with me, they have been very good to me today.
I started off in Chicago, where it was cold and rainy, and they were expecting snow, perfect time for me to find a new paradise. For alot of you that know what I do for a living, and how I take advantage of my amazing travel privileges, this next entry will be something you understand , for others its interesting I'm sure how alot of my travel is the art of being clever and savvy, and the rest is pure luck.
Since I work for the Airlines, as employees were are able to fly practically for free ( we still have to pay international departure taxes) but if you pick your flights right and keep an eye on " the loads" you can fly to your destination in comfort and class.
My day started out in Chicago, needing to fly to Narita ( Tokyo) Japan for the first part of my trip. The direct flights were full, there was two of them, so instead of taking a chance and probably getting a seat in the "Village" ( thats what we call coach) I decided to fly to Seattle, then from there I would fly to Narita, then Bangkok, and in the morning , my final flight to Bali.....Whew....
For some this would seem a long way to go to reach Paradise, but I believe that the destination is even more satisfying when the journey that gets you there takes a little effort and time, and there can be lessons all along the way.
I started my day with a challenge to myself that I would not complain about anything, and be patient no matter what came my way. Well, it must of been the positive thoughts, because my day was great! I got on all my flights, and there were all on time, and even got a little sleep along the way.
My flights and seats so far have been..

Chicago-Seattle......4 hours...Seat 20E ( middle seat) Economy....Cost $ 0

Seattle- Narita, Japan....10 hours...Seat 3J ( window seat) First Class! ...Cost $ 0

Narita, Japan- Bangkok, Thailand.....6 Hours ...Seat 14D( Isle seat) Business Class ...Cost $ 0

My last leg will be on Thai Airlines where I bought a round trip from Bangkok- Bali for $50, it will be on Standby-by, but thats okay, that is how I always travel, I'm sure it will not be a problem getting on, it is the only flight of the day going there, but I'm sure my streak of luck will continue.
So the Travel Privileges I have are to list myself on a flight, checking to see if the flight, and the day I want to travel look good, I can check on a special website to see the loads, and of course if the first or business class sections have seats that are open, it is worth going out of your way to other cities when traveling international to go on flights that have seats available in the higher classes...its makes the journey even more enjoyable!!
So here I am at the airport, I have not even left the terminal, which makes me in the transit part, I don't have to clear security, so I will stay here until I check in for my Flight on Thai Airlines first thing in the morning.
The Bangkok Airport is new, and the part that I am in is open 24 hours. They have a floor of shops and restaurants, and even a spa where you can get massages...the price isn't bad, only $15 for 45, not bad for an airport.
There is even a website www.sleepinginairports.com  that gives you tips and rates the airports on the best ones, and worst ones, and people go on there and review their experiences and give helpful advise on what floors have the best benches to lay on and take a nap, and the best places for food. I discovered that on level 3 here , they have the most cushioned benches, so I'm going to head up there now and see if I can catch a couple hours of sleep.
See you in Bali!!!
