There are moments in your life that you will always remember, the ones that truly leave you in awe, that will forever be snapshots in your mind. Flying over the islands of the Maldives will be one of them for me. A sight that I will forever save in my mind. The moment that they came into view, I was speechless. The small islands are so vivid in color, and so brightly surrounded with vibrant coral reefs, sand so blinding white, that far up in the air they stand out like they were feet below you. These islands are breathtaking. There are so many that are so visible from the sky, miles of them. They starting appearing about 20 minutes before landing, we were flying from the middle of the night in Dubai, and arriving early in the morning. The sun was up, and the sky bright and clear. The view couldn't have been better. It was my first time on Emirates . The flight attendants so perfect, their uniforms matching each other down to the exact same hairpieces and brightly colored red lipstick, they are a mirror image of perfection. And just as nice as they are beautiful. They treated us like Royalty and we were given Godiva chocolates and champagne before we even took off, talk about making us feel welcome! The flight had plenty of seats open, allowing both Christine and I to both get window seats so we could both get great views once we approached the islands. The airport is on its own private island, and after a quick entrance through security to check to make sure we were not smuggling in any alcohol in a strictly prohibited country, we were quickly whisked away to a speedboat that would take us to our island for the next 5 days. Our timing was perfect, we approached an employee with a sign from our resort, and our names on his clipboard, we were escorted to the waters edge, right outside the terminal, handing two cold bottles of water to refresh us, and we climbed on board a luxe speedboat with thick comfortable cushions, not the hard benches I'm used to in the Thailand Islands, and off we went, on our way to our private island.Within a few minutes , we passed the first resort, and island surrounded by the same white , blinding sand that I has witnessed from the air, The first thing that I noticed was the private huts, high up on their stilts protruding out into the water, wow, that is so amazing to see for the first time, a true magazine picture up close in real life. The water here is unbelievable. Its so baby blue, clear as your bath water, and its not just in some places. Its everywhere. The whole ocean is full of it. Every island we passed had the same beauty. Most islands were about the same size, but some of the resorts were more grand with the Huts that stood out in the water more fabulous. Christine and I look over at each other and smile...she says to me" you did great Elizabeth " I really did this time .
