We had an amazing time in Capadoccia, and from there took an over night bus to the little lake town on Egridir- I still don't think I am pronouncing it right- according to some, the G is silent- it is all very confusing. The town is beautiful, right on the edge of the 4th largest lake in Turkey. We went for a really nice hike that day, had a delish fish dinner, and were up and on the more the next morning to Selcuk. This is a nice little town near the coast of Turkey, and the best place to see the ruins at Ephesus- one of the best preserved cities from the greek/roman empire. They have some beautiful statues, buildings and even a 25,000 seat theater! Amid the temples and such the ground is littered with pieces of pillars, legs of statues and a virtual treasure ground of old stuff.
Before leaving Turkey, we tested out the famed Turkish Bath- a very funny experience- you run around in a little plaid "towel" (more like a strip of cloth) and lay in a sauna thing, soapy scrubs, drink tea and come our feeling very clean- albeit a bit dehydrated, it was so hot in there!!!
We left Turkey by boat and are now searching for the perfect beach in the Greek Isles!

After some major sightseeing and lots of planes, trains, busses and ferries, we have finally arrived at what Laura and I like to call, "the vacation part of the trip." We left Turkey by boat, spent a night in Samos and took the early early ferry to Mykonos and through there and on to Paros! It is not quite turist season, not quite warm, but still really pretty and sunny, and damn it, we are going to the beach regardless! Upon arrival at Paros, we were met by Jimmy- as in "Jimmy's Studios and Apartments"- who happily installed us in our cheap, amazing little apartment (even less than a regular room, according to some of the places in the ever omnicient Lonely Planet). Complete with porch, TV, bathroom and mini kitchen, which we used to cook a lovely little pasta dinner last night. It is amazing how exciting a stove can be!
As we have discovered throughout the course of the trip, whenever there is open space in our room, especially when we have it all to ourselves- everything EXPLODES. It is amazing, how everything can seem to fit so nice into the bags and then BOOM! stuff everywhere.
So we are relishing in the fact that we can rummage through our bags and then leave the stuff right where we left it! I like to think of it as practicing for when I get home, and how I am going to artfully decorate my room- replenish the stuff mom has been diligently trying to remove- :)
Our plan on the islands it to head SOUTH. We are in search of some nice warm beaches and good tans before we get home! So from Paros we are heading to Ios, then Santorini and then down to Crete- where it is rumered that it might be hot enough to make me complain a bit- which means good beachy weather!
We are counting down the days now- less than a month left! Crazy!
