I've hit water, I've hit water!! I finally arrived at the beach.  I'm in Ko Lanta, in SW Thailand (near Ko Phi Phi).  It's gorgeous - I've got my own bungalow with a hammock on the front deck.  The beach is about 30 yards from my door, and it's about 90 degrees out.  But let me back up.
The time to leave Bangkok came and went, and 3 days after that I finally left the city. I hoped aboard a city bus and settled in for the 1.5 hr commute to the bus station.  20 minutes into the ride, the driver got into an accident.  He seemed not worried that he'd taken the front bumper of a taxi with him, and continued along.  20 more minutes of cat and mouse ensued before the bus comes screeching to a halt .... the taxi has gotten in front of us, slammed on his brakes, and will not let us pass.  More chaos ensued with loud talking (Thais don't seem much for yelling) and I jumped into a taxi.  Immediately at the bus station I was greeted by a ladie boy - a boy dressing/living as a girl.  Thai people don't even bat an eye - you just are as you are! She was our bus attendant.
My seat mate was a nice girl who happily instructed that at the next stop, we should use  the bathroom because frankly, "after two hours, the bathroom on the bus is not so delicious."  Wiser words were never said.
After this 12 hour bus ride, then a 2 hour mini van ride, including two trips on an open barge-like transport, I arrived on a small piece of paradise.  My friend Fredericke (from holland) came down a few days earlier, and did the dirty work of finding a cheap/clean place to stay.  I'm incredibly happy to be away from Bangkok and in some fresh air. I'll be here for a week, snorkeling, sleeping, reading, sleeping, eating, drinking, and sleeping.

have I goofed up?
hi Elizabeth, just sent a note to you via the site, did you get it? I'm new to this blog thing and I can't see it posted. I guess there must be a difference between a comment and a message.

Hello 21st Century. Darling, I'm barely out of the cave.

Finally made it
Hi Lizzie! Joe and I were just watching the Amazing Race and I was thinking how you would just absolutely kick everyone's butt. Then I missed you terribly and felt sorry for myself that I didn't have my running buddy. Maybe we can partner up for the Amazing Race. We can be the 'multicultural professionals'. Sorry, it's late and I'm running on 4 hours of sleep so I can't think of a clever name, as you can see by my log-in name. Can't wait to read more about the paparazzi, temples, and presidents that you keep encountering. Many hugs, Terri
