The time to leave Bangkok came and went, and 3 days after that I finally left the city. I hoped aboard a city bus and settled in for the 1.5 hr commute to the bus station. 20 minutes into the ride, the driver got into an accident. He seemed not worried that he'd taken the front bumper of a taxi with him, and continued along. 20 more minutes of cat and mouse ensued before the bus comes screeching to a halt .... the taxi has gotten in front of us, slammed on his brakes, and will not let us pass. More chaos ensued with loud talking (Thais don't seem much for yelling) and I jumped into a taxi. Immediately at the bus station I was greeted by a ladie boy - a boy dressing/living as a girl
My seat mate was a nice girl who happily instructed that at the next stop, we should use the bathroom because frankly, "after two hours, the bathroom on the bus is not so delicious." Wiser words were never said.
After this 12 hour bus ride, then a 2 hour mini van ride, including two trips on an open barge-like transport, I arrived on a small piece of paradise. My friend Fredericke (from holland) came down a few days earlier, and did the dirty work of finding a cheap/clean place to stay. I'm incredibly happy to be away from Bangkok and in some fresh air. I'll be here for a week, snorkeling, sleeping, reading, sleeping, eating, drinking, and sleeping.
