Today was the tour of Saxonia with Christiane. It's the furthest drive from the practice, and it is 3-4 bigger farms in the Eastern part of Germany. Today was pretty basic, quick preg checks or sick cows to look at on each farm. We finished work, then Christiane gave me the keys to her car, so I can use it this weeked. I went tonght to get my mattress, so I have step one of my apartment!! (Yep, I actually made it to Hassfurt and back by myself in the stick car!) There is actually a piece of furniture in my flat now... Saturday will hopefully help the bareness of the apartment alot with my adventure to IKEA (by myself to Nurnburg in the stick shift car...there might be some stories brewing there...)

Anyhow, today wasn't that exciting, and neither was yesterday, although I got some pictures I wanted to post. Ellen and I raced through the calls because she wanted to take pics for a presentation she has to give on beef farming. So after the calls, we went to a few of the beef cow calf farms and photographed them. So, for your pleasure, I am adding some of the cows here. Most of the milking cows are either holstein friesien mix or fleckviah (pronounced 'fleg-fie"), which is pretty much the same thing as a Simmentol. (It's a milking Simmental versus a beef Simmental) (they're some sort of regional specialty or something here in the south) They're fatter than the holsteins, which makes them more difficult to palpate, but they make up for it by being way cute (especially the babies). The beefers aren't as cute as the milking ones.
