Imagine the quintessential Italian village on a hillside. Then imagine all the buildings are made out of out of Medieval stone, splatter the surrounding countryside with open fields, thousands of purple lavender bushes, and stick a stone version of the castle that you see at the beginning of every Disney movie at the top of the hill in the center of the village, and that's Grignan for you. Coming from the United States where there are rarely buildings older than 200 years anywhere, it was pretty cool staying in a house where there was a mini-gym in a cave with stones from the 13th century.
Experiencing this, what is hard not to describe as, perfect area, makes it understandable as to why so many families from Northern France chose to send their children to towns and villages in the South of France.
A big thanks to Morely, Tim, Daniel and Rowan Beiser for their hospitality and showing us the incredible area of Grignan.
