Late April 1940

The Beizers spent a week or so in Portugal, where Boris remembers his parents being very tense and anxious. At the end of the month they boarded the American export ship, the SS Siboney, for America. This trip was one of the last passenger trips the ship made. (For details on this, read the newspaper article below, which was written about their journey soon after the family arrived in the U.S.)

Years Later

In this video clip Boris beautifully describes the tangible transition he felt his parents make onboard the SS Siboney from being anxious and scared all the time, to having no fear. Years later he realized that one of the reasons he loves sailing so much is because of the transition his family had aboard the SS Siboney in 1941.
