Palolem Beach is the nearest thing to Paradise I have ever found. It's magical in a way that's beyond my ability to put into prose. Poetry and song could, I believe, capture a part of the beauty here, but it would be at best a reflection of idyll, a second-hand retelling of the joy of being here.
The best I can do is to sit in the chair on the deck outside my beach hut, wearing the smile of a contented man, and say, "Ah, the serenity."
(Writer's note: To those of you yet to see "The Castle", do this at once. Not only will you then have watched the funniest Australian movie ever, it will also enlighten my last comment for you. Enjoy!)
One last thing before I go. As I sit here & write this, nestled amid a coconut grove, waves lapping the beach from a languid Arabian Sea, and a few of my favourite summer songs from ole Aoteoroa whispering words of home in my ears, I can't help but think:
If New Zealand is Godzone, then Palolem is surely where HE comes to get a tan.
Missing NZ (but, for today, a little less),
Love to you all.
Connor xoxo
