Hello all,
Well it has been a while since we last posted. Since then we went to the music festival in Budapest and went on that night boat ride on the Danube. Very beautiful indeed! The three of us  then wrapped up our Budapest stay and caught a flight to Slovenia where Lidija (Veronica and Andre's cousin) and her husband Peter met us at the Ljubljana airport and then drove together to a beautiful old town in the North East, Ptuj. This is where Peter's parents Frank and Olga live. For the next week we all lived with them (thanks Frank and Olga for your marvellous hospitality and generosity). Ptuj is a historical town in the true sense with monuments and artifacts dating back to 2nd and 3rd century with a chequered past of rule
(Romans, Frankish, Maygars (Hungarian), Habsburg, and so on). Our week Ptuj saw us take day trips to various wineries, museums, churches, and towns. It was quite an amount of history for these "aussie history novices" to take in and contemplate but we enjoyed it immensely and were guided by Peter who has substantial knowledge of the country's history. Slovenia was part of Yugoslavia until the early 1990s. It is now a country with just over 1 million. It is a country that boasts the best of the mountain alps and rolling fields. Slovenia is green with lush vegetation, and the countryside is home to many beautiful rivers. We spent a lovely day with Milan and Lidija's sister Natasha and family on lake Bled. Another memorable day was spent with Milan and Lidija on the Julian Alps overlooking Triglav national park. The highlights of the trip were the pristine natural beauty of the alps and roman and medieval towns, the gorgeous boutique city of Ljubljana, eating amazing food like deer proscuitto on pizza, wild mushroom soup, home cooked baby rabbit schnitzel (grown by Peter's aunty), Marianna's home brewed wine, eating increadible chocolate from a chocolazania in the gorgoeus countryside and drinking the cleanest tasting chardonnay, and above all getting to know our cousins better. Thankyou Lidija and Peter for giving us a week of your vacation time and making our stay so special. Bye for now, Veronica and Edwin xx
