Sandvík is the northernmost village in the island Suđuroy in the Faroes. The population is around 100. Sandvík has a Viking history. Sigmundur Brestisson, a Viking chief, was swimming from the island Skúvoy to Sandvík, where he was killed by Torgrímur Illi (Torgrimur the Mean). There is a monument raised in Sandvík over Sigmund Brestisson, the monument is made by Hans Pauli Olsen. There are also two other monuments in Sandvík: One in memory of the local writer Martin Joensen and another monument is to remember the men who died in "Skađagrindin" in 1915.
There is a very beautiful place west of the village Sandvík. There is a sea stack, which is called Ásmundarstakkur. Other place names from the area are for instance: Lambhagin, Rituskor and Glyvrabergsgjógv.
There is a local museum in Sandvík; the house is called "Húsiđ uttan Ánna", which means "The house east of the river". It is very old and built in the old traditional Faroese style. I think that the oldest part of the house is from the 18th century. There are some interesting old things in the house and the house itself is a curiosity, because it shows how the people were living in the 19th century in the Faroes.
