I visited Tvøroyri at the Midsummer Festival and took many photos there. I have uploaded some of them here. Tvøroyri is an interesting village with many different things to see.
Museum and Art Gallery
There is a museum near the harbor in the centre of town. The museum is in the so-called "Doktarahusid", which means "The doctor's house", there are many interesting items from the local history, including the maritime history. There is an art gallery, which is called "Art Gallery Oyggin" in the wester part of town, opposite of the shop Tangabúðin, which belongs to the same owners. There are also sculpture outside the art gallery and on the opposite side.
Accomodation
There is a hotel with a restaurant and bar in the centre of town, it is called Hotel Tvøroyri. Near the hotel there is a guesthouse, which is called Guesthouse Virgin Cage. Both of these are in the street Miðbrekkan, which is a side street to Tvørávegur, the main street. Further east is another guesthouse, which is called Guesthouse undir Heygnum. A very nice guesthouse, located next to the sea; and it has its own boat bridge. The Guesthouse undir Heygnum has a website: www.guest-house.dk
If you wish to rent a house or B&B, you can rent it from the Tourist Information Centre.
The Old Shop and the Sail Loft
In the harbor there is the Old Shop (Krambúðin), which is the oldest building in Tvøroyri, built in 1836 by the Royal Danish Monopoly. In 1856 the Old Shop and the other building of the Monopoly, the ware houses, were sold to a Dane called Thomas Frederik Thomsen. The buildings still belong to the same family, the 5th generation has brought the buildings "back to live", and the Old Shop is now a café, pub and a museum with many interesting old items and documents. Next to the Old Shop is the Sail loft (Seglloftið), which was renovated recently and opened in 2008. The Sail Loft is a cultural house, which houses concerts, lectures, parties etc.
The Church
The church of Tvøroyri is from 1908, it is a Norwegian wooden church. You can contact the local Tourist Information, if you wish to visit the church or the museum. The website of the Tourist Information: www.visitsuduroy.fo
