Where I stayed
Guesthouse Famjin
Fámjin is a nice little village on the west coast of Suduroy. The population is only around 100. There is a white church in the centre of the village, which is well visited by tourists and Faroese people, because of the prototype of the Faroese flag, which is hanging inside the church. The flag was first made in Copenhagen by a young Faroese student from Fámjin, Jens Oliver Lisberg and others, which was in 1919. The flag was recognized in 1940 by the British government.
The Old Shop - Now a Coffée Shop
In Fámjin there is a café in an old shop. There is a nice terrasse outside the Coffée Shop and also on the 1st floor, inside and outside. The café is situated near the church and next to the beach. There was great view to the sea and the little harbor with the Faroese wooden fishing boats. While I was in Fámjin there was a big change in the climate all of a sudden. The sea withdrawn and brown seaweed became visible. A reef became visible and almost blocked the way out of the bay, except for a little man-made channel, which has made it possible for the fishing boats to sail out and in, even at low tide. There was a funny smell in the air, but it was a natural smell, because of the seaweed.
Hiking trips/walks in or around Fámjin
I can recommend you to walk around in the village and to follow the road to where it ends, it is called Prestgjógv and is a beautiful place in nature, vertical cliffs next to the village. I can also recommend a short walk up the hill behind the church, up to a little lake, which is called Kirjuvatn (The Church Lake). It you don't find the path, you can ask one of the locals.
