The guard at the airport has been asking us to come to hid house for couscous with his family for a couple weeks, however we are usually working so much we haven't had time. This weekend however looked pretty grim weather-wise we finally accepted his kind offer.

We arrived to his house and were greeted by his six children, 3 girls and 3 boys, ranging in age from about 8 to 18. The meal started with tea, cake and nuts and some conversation. The mother of the family does not join us as she is preparing the meal. Most of the family speaks french, the mother speaks only Berber and the rest of the family speaks mostly Arabic.

The eldest daughter brings out a large tajine filled with couscous topped with meat and vegetables. It is delicious, they steam their couscous here and it makes it so much better then what you get back home. The meat is tender and the vegetables are great. We all eat until we are pleasantly full and take a break. We all think that was a great meal and are looking forward to the oranges served for dessert, however we soon discover the meal is not over yet. Another tajine is brought out and it contains two full chickens with a delicious sauce and lemons in brine and hard boiled eggs over top. We look at each other and think - oh dear, we're already so full, but you can't refuse! We started to dig in, the chicken is amazing, so delicious and the sauce is fantastic. We do our best to eat more, and then pull back.

Finally the oranges and bananas are brought out and the Mother joins us at last. This a fantastic way to finish a meal by the way, the oranges are so refreshing! We stay and talk for about a hour after dinner about Morocco, art and Canada and feel very welcome in their home. It was a fantastic night! The family gives us a little drum to take home, it's made just like the larger ones that I bought. I hope we get to spend more time with this family, they really opened their home to us and made us feel very welcome.
