I got up early, ~5am, to get some prep time since last night wasn't productive. Also I needed some more medicine to help the Peruvian defeat of 2010. I had enough time to get ready for my 8am departure to trek up Mount Chachani. The stomach wasn't quite ready for big eating, so I bought some Powerade and a Snickers on the way to eat on the 2.5hr drive to the 5000m starting point - with 2hrs being mostly rough dirt singletrack roads. After arriving my guide and I split up the gear and hiked ~200-300m vert to the base camp and then Jesus preceded to setup camp. Yeah, I came as prepared as I could with my guide - aka Son of God. Well it didn't take much longer for me to need to find a rock to deposit my nice Powerade electrolyte drink and accompanying Snickers {boy those would have helped}. Jesus didn't seem to take notice to the mayhem ~20m away... or did he?
Next up was a lunch of a ham-like substance, 2 slices of cheese, and white bread - of which I could only eat half. Then I rested for ~1-1.5hrs and then did a quick 35min acclimation hike to see how it felt. The thin air definitely made it tougher to breathe along with some light-headedness to boot was very noticeable. Not a great combination, but the trail in this part wasn't too technical. Back to camp I went, after which I found another area to deposit lunch & and other Powerade I drank on the short hike since last time. Nothing like trying to climb mountains without any nutrition or hydration for 2 days. It was like the Inca trail all over again, just 2000m higher. Some more rest and then time for dinner. We had some soup (Chicken noodle) & something I forget. It was an early night with my Spanish speaking savior since tomorrow we were to wake at 1am to leave at ~2am... I could sleep well after leaving my marks on Chachani today.
