Doug and I left home headed for Maine as we have countless times.  I think we have crossed the border every way possible, and none of them is very exciting at this point.  The weather was not the best for a motorcycle trip, and just because we were headed south, I shouldn't have thought my mesh jacket was the best option.  Our first stop at Irving Big Stop, a usual stopping place, gave me time to put on another layer (rainwear) and warm up with coffee and lemon pie!

Fog and drizzle were our companions through most of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.  A bright spot was meeting a woman at the Ultramar on the Wentworth Valley Loop who had just gotten her motorcycle license, and is excited about getting on the road.  We didn't stay long - blackflies were fierce.

A stop at Tim's before crossing the border offered us ample chat with a few seniors over coffee

The border guard appeared interested in the motorcycle convention I would be attending, but she was, in fact, inquisitive because of a patch on my jacket that she suspected might mean I am not the sweet, retired rider I profess to be.  Our discussion convinced her I was a safe bet, and we crossed and headed to Brewer via the airline route.  It was dark before we arrived at Vacationland Inn, but the route was direct and easy to navigate.  Our room was small, but fine, and staff welcomed us heartily.  Breakfast the next morning in their cafe included my favorite when traveling, waffles.  They had homemade blueberry and strawberry sauce-yummy.
