Our final 2-night stay hotel is JW Marriott Guanacaste Resort & Spa, which is approached through the town of Tamarindo, and into Hacienda Pinilla, a 4,500 acre development along the Pacific Coast. Hacienda Pinilla is in various stages of development and designed to become a resort community with international hotels, ocean view houses, upscale single family houses, cottages, condos and commercial centers. It appears to be where the wealthy North Americans and Europeans (as seen on TV) are coming.
I said in one of the first blogs that the hotel in San Jose was the grandest we have stayed in, but that has fallen to third since arriving at JW Marriot Guanacaste Resort.  We were all like kids at Disneyland as we checked in and realized we had two days to play.

From our room, our walk out balcony enters the terrace gardens, overlooking the courtyard and swimming pool in the distance.  It is the largest infinity pool in Central America, and looks to be about a block long.  We missed the sunset the first evening, but were on the beach the next night until the last glimpse of light sank into the Pacific.

The second day was spent on the beach, in the pool, on beach chairs, under umbrellas and any shade we could find (40 degrees C during mid day), in the air conditioned room, in the hammock, in the courtyard and gift shop.  We enjoyed breakfast, lunch, dinner, 3 hours of happy hour and the sunset with many of the friends we have met on the tour.

Happy 3-hour was compliments of Caravan, so there were frequent visits to the kiosk.  The bartender who could speak very little English outside the names of drinks, had a small creature made of a leaf (palm, perhaps), decorating his kiosk.  One of our group asked him about it, but his English couldn't support answers.  On my next trip to the kiosk, another JWM employee was with him, and translated the questions.  The creature was a cricket.  The interpreter added, "His first name is Jaime." (spoken in Spanish)  The bartender rolled his eyes, laughed, and said, "He's silly."  The Costa Rican humor continues.
