August 23-24

I spent one more night in Split to check it out as the rest of my tour mates headed home the next day. The only ones left in our dorm wie sas me and an Australian guy named Matt. It just so happened that Matt was also headed to Hvar today, so as one group of travel buddies left, I found a new one.

I wanted to go back to Hvar because I heard a lot of good things about it and I liked what I saw when I went there on the tour, so this time, I'm going to do it right. After checking into my hostel which was a bit of a hike uphill from the main town, I met back with Matt and we headed to the famous Hula Hula bar. This bar sits right on the edge of the water and plays awesome music until about 10 pm,when everyone heads to bar Carpe Diem. It was a nice day to unwind by the water, drinking cold beer and eating appetizers by the water. After a few hours, I took a quick dip in the ocean and we headed back, to return later for sundown.

After getting cleaned up we headed back to Hula Hula to find it packed with people dancing on the platform over the water and basically anywhere they could. The music was blasting and the sun was setting over the ocean in the background. It was an amazing site. Later in the night I met up with another couch surfer named Didier. He was a guy from Belgium who lives in Hvar in the summer. He came along with a guy he was hosting from France named Patrice, and we were later joined by two other couch surfing French girls from Paris. We ended the night drinking and getting to know each other at the hippest bar on the island, Carpe Diem.

The next day was totally free for me and since my hostel rented scooters, I thought I would give it a try, even though I have never done it before (of course I didn't tell them that). I had seen and heard about a lot of injuries from people scootering in Greece, so I was a little hesitant, but I gave it a go anyway. Once I finally got the hang of it, I was totally glad I made that decision. Cruising through the countryside of the island, up the mountains and through the forest was almost zen like. You really get to see the scenery in a totally different way. I biked to the other side of the island, to the smaller towns and beaches that were even more beautiful than previous islands. I spent a good 6 hours on the bike, listening to my ipod and taking in the scenery.

That night I met up with Didier and Patrice for the full moon party on Carpe Diem island. Basically, the Carpe Diem bar on hvar has a private island where they built a massive club. At about 1 am every night you take a taxi boat to the island for the party. That night they started early as the crowds were big. After a short 10 minute boat ride we entered the club. It basically looked like a club within a small forest thats on the beach. A big dance floor within the trees and lounge chairs around it, with a beach filled with sun beds to lounge on. The atmosphere was amazing, like nothing I had ever seen before. We all danced the night away until about 5 am and I said good bye to my new couchsurfing friends.

I'm glad you are getting to know new people and discovering new places.
I'm proud of you to take the risk of doing something you never done before and challenge yourself like driving a motor scooter. You can see how much more you are capable to doing than you think. great job.
