We've luckily escaped the heat and smog of Delhi and made it to Shimla, former summer capital of colonial India. The increase in altitude (or more likely the decrease in smog) seems to be making Rick feel better (he had previously passed out and shat himself in front of a supreme court judge). The tank and the bull (our bikes) spent the night in Kalka, alone and unlocked, thanks to someone forgetting to attach a luggage van to the narrow guage train to Shimla. After a nervewracking night without bicycles we were reunited with them this morning. Thanks to Mr Aman Gupta.
Both slightly nervous at the scale of the hills around (it took our train 6 hours to climb 1300m over 97km), but in good spirits. Just about to find a mobile for Ed; in the mean time Rick can be texted on 0091 9717 201 301. Our numbers will change in 2-3 weeks when we leave Himachal for Kashmir.
No idea when we'll next have internet, but we plan to head off tomorrow or the day after. From there three weeks through Spiti and Kinnaur should take us to the Manali-Leh highway.

What was Rick doing in front of a supreme court judge in the first place? I assume it was a chance meeting rather than that you are already in trouble...
