My first stop was Brighton, UK where I've been a few times for work and have always enjoyed the diversity of the city. Outside of being very gay friendly (they were starting to set up for Pride Sept 1-2, which was neat to see), there is an equal mix of posh-ness, dodgy-ness, all surrounded by a hippy vibe.  It was a perfect way to start my journey as I got some time to just relax, enjoy the sea side, wander through the Lanes, and visit with a couple of friends that I've made through work.

After being delayed on both the flight and the bus from Heathrow Airport, I made it to Brighton and quickly checked in to my hotel.  A dear friend had been waiting for me for almost an hour and I'm sure was wondering if I stood him up!   After connecting with him at the Brighton Rocks Bar (great place) and enjoying a pint, we then went to the "Lanes" and had a couple more pints at the Druids Head (every time I’ve been to Brighton, I’ve ended up at this pub….I can’t explain). We then enjoyed an Italian dinner al fresco at Donatello.  Being a bank holiday in the UK, the trains were running on holiday service so my friend had to make a mad dash to make the last train.  Very short visit but a great one nonetheless!

The next day I spent walking along the seaside and partaking in a favourite hobby of mine - people watching - on the Brighton Pier.   It’s amazing how a sunny day, a few rides and games, fish and chips and ice cream or cotton candy can bring out the kid in anyone.   After enjoying the Pier, I wandered through the Lanes and window shopped. So many lovely little stores: beautiful clothes, shoes, handbags….all of nothing I will need for the next while….sigh.

For dinner I traveled by train towards London to the town of Burgess Hill to meet another set of friends; he I meet again through work and she through him as they have gotten married and now have a lovely little 1yr girl.  He made a fantastic chicken curry and we spent the evening catching up and getting a tour of their new home!  I give them very very short notice of my arrival (for which he kept taking the mick out of me for), but was so happy they were free for a visit.

My last day I went to see the Royal Palace (finally as I’ve never been in all my previous visits) and then went for a stroll along Madeira Drive which started out as nice and sunny but quickly the skies turned dark and you guessed it...it started to rain.  Why wouldn’t it…it is Great Britain after all!  With no more sunny skies I’ve made my way to Gatwick and am writing this as I wait to be able to check in for my flight to Nairobi which is already posted as delayed…..
