Later on we went to see the "Big Tree" - 22.5ft wide, 340ft tall - that was pretty amazing! The trees here are fab!
Last night we stayed in a camp site on the side of the ocean so once again we woke up to the sound and sight of the sea
As we were going down the coast we decided to stop off, at Tim's recommendation, at the "Avenue of the Giants". This is a long road lined with huge redwood trees. There is one called "The Immortal Tree" as it is still alive after being struck by lightening, hacked at with an axe, being in a fire and also a flood, (you could say it was a bad day!!!) We also saw 2 drive through trees although we didn't try it with the RV!!! and some tree houses (yes that is trees that are hollowed out and have windows and stairs in them). We played in them for a while like a pair of kids!!!
At Legett, where the 2nd tree is (What a name I ask you although there are worse ones - Lake Minnewanke!!!!!!!!), we met a girl travelling up to Portland who we chatted to for a while about her journey around the world.
On the way down the coast we stopped to watch the sun set over the Pacific - it was beautiful.
We were running low on petrol by this point though and weren't sure if we could make it to the next town so we stopped in at a country inn to ask for directions. We were met by a really friendly couple called Phil and Sandy who invited us in, made us drinks, offered us food and gave Ali a blanket to keep her warm! Sandy is a Londoner who moved to America and met Phil over here, so we chatted about England for a while and the benefits of living on the west coast in America! (There are many!!!) The Country Inn they have is wonderful and anyone wishing to stay on the west coast should definitely visit them and their dog Reg! We could hear sea lions from outside the front door and also the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks.
We regrettably left Phil and Sandy and drove on to Richmond, San Francisco, where we found our second home, Walmart, to stay at for the night. By now it was 2am and we were very tired!
