We were up ridiculously early yesterday to catch the 9am ferry to Vancouver Island. We were at the terminal by 8am to avoid the traffic so we sat and drank coffee and ate bagels til it was time to go. We got to Vancouver Island and had a half hour drive into Victoria. We parked the car and walked along the sea front, watching the sea planes taking off and coming in and all the hive of activity with boat tours coming and going. We tried to go on a whale watching tour but missed it by minutes - gutted! We had lunch in a cafe on the sea front and then walked along the market place looking at the shops and stalls. During the afternoon we went to the Royal BC Museum to see the Titanic exhibit that is on right now. They have set it up really well, recreating the ship and then putting up all the information around the edges. They also had videos playing and stories of the people who died that night as well as accounts from the survivors. It really got us thinking and was quite an emotional exhibit. Imagine having to leave your father and brother to die while you and your mum were saved because you were female. That must have been so awful. The whole thing was incredible and so worth seeing.
When the museum closed we decided to drive along the coast for a while. The houses were amazing and really nice places to live. Right on the water front too. We could definitely come back here! We then had to make our way back to the ferry and go back to Vancouver. Some day we'll be back though!
Today we took the car back - boo hoo! We loved that car! We have done 2190 kms since we picked it up - that is a long way and we still have so far to go! We spent some time over on the other side of the bridge in Vancouver which was nice, then we headed back to the dock ad watched a huge cruise liner leave for Alaska. It felt like watching the Titanic, with everyone waving from the deck! After that we went to the IMAX cinema to watch a couple of short 3D films, as it is the International Film Festival here. The first one was called "Identity" and was about the psychology of the brain - you'd have liked that one Dave, Hannah and Robbie!!! The second one was called "The Buffalo" and was about animals living in the wild. Tonight we did boring stuff like washing, packing etc ready to leave tomorrow and head back to USA.
