We touched down in Calgary airport yesterday morning to be greeted by snow! Yes snow! We thought for a minute we were in the wrong place! It is September after all! So Erica be prepared - its on its way to you!!!
We sorted out the hire car and found we had a free upgrade to a 'grande' rather than an 'economy' so we are cruising round in a pontiac v6! It is a very nice car if a little on the large side! A good way to practice for the RV though hey!!!
We spent our day yesterday looking around Calgary and getting our bearings around the city. We hit the shopping mall and the walkways through them and had a few more people admire our accent! Then we went to the Science museum - we're sure its more for children to learn through play but we had so much fun! The place is full of illusions and practical experiments to show you how things work, e.g. how electricity is formed and how certain objects are powered using energy. It was sooo much fun! We were like little kids - I think we had more fun than half the kids there! We joined a couple of them in trying to whisper through a satellite dish to someone on the other side of the room with a second satellite dish! They were teaching us how it worked!!! We could have spent hours in that museum - it really was fun! After that we found Wal-Mart, the American and Canadian version of Asda. We bought ourselves an ipod for our car and RV journey over the next few weeks. We spent a couple of hours today downloading some albums for it. Its pretty damn cool!
Today we went up the Calgary Tower and did yet a second glass floor - we are getting to be quite the professionals! Only a 10 minute panic first now which is quite some improvement!!! Hope came with us too! She is a bear of Hope that we bought when we were in Winnipeg on Monday. She is to spread hope about a cure for cancer and she is now going to come on our travels with us and spread that hope wherever we go. She enjoyed it up the tower too but I'm not sure she was entirely grateful about us plonking her on the glass floor - she may have a fear of heights for all we know!!! After the Tower we went over to Eau Clare, which is a big market. We bought some English chocolate at a very silly price and walked around there for a while. Then we went to sort out the ipod music. We saw a Film Festival going on tonight too - it is previewing the new Brad Pitt film tonight. It was sold out but we saw all the film crews and "posh" people there. Brad Pitt unfortunately didn't turn up but the people did take our picture for the purposes of spreading word about free stuff! They were giving away free goodies - who would say no?!!!
Tomorrow we are leaving to go to Banff and probably get lots more snow so we'll update you again soon!!!
