From Aire River we continued up the track which headed straight up the hill. Mike with his fresh legs and fitness powered up the hill. I was soon out of puff, so I stood aside letting the fitter walkers past and took my familiar place at the back where I could tackle the hill at my own snails pace.

Once up the hill we were again rewarded with yet more magnificent views of the coast line.
The group was blessed with warm temperatures and lots of sun although for me I was hoping we would get a nice cool southerly. The beach walk and the warm muggy day had drained my energy, I was over heating despite drinking many litres of water. As I approached the lunch spot (Castle Cove) I contemplated pulling out due to my low energy level and overheating. I asked if I could spend lunch in the vehicle with the aircon on. This was a godsend. My energy level increased to a point where I was confident of taking on the next 3 hour section to Johanna Beach. As I decided to continue, Jan decided to pull out of this leg.

Castle Cove is where the Great Ocean Highway meets the Great Ocean Walk, so there was many tourists enjoying the ocean views.
