All day Friday we had a "mini Asia Emmaus  Conference" which turned out to be more mini than planned. The full Emmaus Philippines staff was there, called BSA for Bible School of the Air and they broadcast Bible studies on the radio and advertise the courses that way. Peter Clift and two Japanese brother were here as well. The highlight of the day was Graham Fleming ( no relation) explaining the need for cultural as well as word translation and the many steps involved in a good translation. It's hard work, but to get the same image in the head of the reader in the new language as was in the mind of the writer, and more importantly, the same impact, is not easy.

We also had country reports from Japan and the Philippines. The Filipino work is innovative allowing people to send a text message to ask for a course. The Japanese work is just getting restarted and has made great strides in translating courses.

Saturday was the 60th anniversary of the Emmaus courses being used in a language other than English. Cyril Brooks (our daughter-in-law's great grandfather) had the idea for this. About 200 of us went out  the the Emmaus Bible Camp for a morning of meetings, recognition of workers, certificates being given out, and Jim speaking. It was a great day, emotional, enthusiastic, and encouraging. The day finished with a delicious lunch before we began making our separate ways home.
